Kerri's 30 Second Questionnaire. Take It.

Here's something you didn't know about me: I'm very fond of those 30 second questionnaires they print in newspapers. You know the kind. A starlet or a celebrity gardener or a famous chef will answer all sorts of hugely important questions about a variety of terribly weighty topics, ranging from what they are very bad at to what they ate for lunch. And the answers are often desperately clever. Like:

I'm very bad at saying no to chocolates;
I wish I hadn't eaten 27 chocolates last night.
It's not fashionable but I like those 30 second questionnaires they print in newspapers.

Yup.
Genius.
Right.

So it's no wonder I often think I could, ehem, do better. Not only with the answers, like:

I'm very bad at refraining from scaring complete strangers with my Bum Finger;
I wish I hadn't told my landscape architect he has the body of a Chippendale dancer;
It's not fashionable but I like writing witty and superior 30 second questionnaires;
but also with the questions.

So I am going to design some new, riveting interview questions for myself to answer. Just because it's fun. And I can. And no-one else is questioning me.
But they are also for you. So please answer. And contribute your own questions if you like. I'll respond. I promise.
Because it's a darn sight better than questioning myself.
  1. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Yes. I nearly bled to death after my youngest was born and was rushed back in for emergency surgery. I was panic stricken & terrified but never once thought of god. I just thought about my kids and how I didn't want them to lose me.
  2. What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? A lesbian English teacher who had a little crush on me once gave me 22/20 for an essay. Two bonus marks for being so fabulous. True story.
  3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Yes. I was in love with Josh Goldenbum for 3 years at school and I passionately hated and envied every single girl he 'went round with'. And there were lots of them. But never me.
  4. If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? Probably not. We'd be too alike.
  5. If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? Hot chips.
  6. Have you ever stolen anything? No, though I have allowed Toddler to steal many, many Kinder Surprises from the supermarket. And I have never once felt guilty.
  7. Rate these in order from hardest to easiest to give up for a year: chocolate, sex, alcohol, mobile phone, TV, computer. TV, computer, chocolate, mobile phone, alcohol, sex.
  8. If you weren't with your current partner, who would you be with? Simon Baker. Jeez. Do you not know me at all?

  1. OK, *I* haven't faced death, but my husband has (spent a couple of minutes clinically dead) and he SWEARS there is nothing on the 'other side'. No white light - nothing.

And things to give up for a year: Computer, chocolate, alcohol, sex, mobile phone, TV.

With a fried brain after a scorching hot day, that's all I can come up with right now!!

  3. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Yes, when I was 17 I was in a bad car accident and broke my arm. When I came to, lying half in and half out of the car, the first thing I did was to move my legs to make sure i wasn't paralysed - before I was even conscious of my surroundings.

2: What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? A male schoolteacher - the creepy kind - gave me a Police album. Completely icked me out and turned me off The Police for years.

3: Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Oh all the time! People who are taking fabulous trips owing to being married to guys earning a good income, people who don't have to worry about money, people who have a new car, people who have a helpful, supportive, loving partner. Why can't I have that?

4: If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? Oh no, I'd think I was an arrogant control freak. But good fun at parties, and an excellent baker.
5: If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? Sourdough
6: Have you ever stolen anything? I was a fairly accomplished shoplifter in high school. Stationery, kit kats, that kind of thing. Then I got caught and told off by a copper and it scared me straight.
7: Rate these in order from hardest to easiest to give up for a year: chocolate, sex, alcohol, mobile phone, TV, computer. Computer, sex, mobile phone, TV, chocolate, alcohol. (The last one's a doddle as I don't drink)
8: If you weren't with your current partner, who would you be with? What current partner? I'm a free and easy single girl!

  4. ok:
    1. Death question too complicated to explain in 30 seconds, but yes, not to the white light extent but to the gee-that-was-close-hope-I-dont-die-soon extent.

    2. Playing a tree in the school play - I had to stand onstage for the entire play with my hands up in the air (they were branches you see) and I did not get to utter a word. At the end all the trees die as some kind of symbolism so I got to issue a primal scream followed by writhing in agony and crawling offstage. Main thing that still plagues me is not why my weird drama teacher who never took off her leather gloves and had a gravity-defying spiky fringe would be so cruel, but why I would agree to participate? (I'm an eldest child, rule-breaking is not my thing).

    3. Recently have experienced true envy for the first time - every flat-tummied mummy (or, ok, person) I see (I have a paunch that no matter how skinny I get, will not go flatter than the 4 month mark). Sit-ups seem to ironically increase the paunch. Otherwise I love my body and my flaws, but the stomach crosses the line. It's superficial but there it is.

    4. Yes because I try to find something to like about most people!

    5. Tea. is that a food? No? Ok then...thinking music....plain pasta with butter and cheese.

6.No stealing in my past. Boring.

    7. TV, computer, mobile phone, chocolate, sex.

    8. Depends who would have me! If it's any one, hmmm, Barack Obama!

  5. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?
    Yes.
Stopped breathing after an anaesthetic. Never thought anything till I questioned the doctor why my face was bruised and my lip cut. (they had to resuscitate me quickly and force tubes into my mouth). Then I thought maybe he had just punched me while I was asleep...

What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school?
I actually achieved a semblance of education. Weird given what was going on

Have you ever been desperately envious of someone?
    Yes.

If you met yourself, do you think you would like You?
Probably not. I have tendency to cry at the drop of a hat. I am not partial to crying people.

If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?
    Toast

    Have you ever stolen anything?
Yes - according to my mother-in-law I stole her son.

  8. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Not really, but I've thought "OMG I'm gonna die" plenty of times. I'm a bit of a drama queen.

2: What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? I came away actually having learned something. Weird, huh?

3: Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? No. I am awesome.

4: If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? Yes. See 3.

5: If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? Those little cherry bite chocolates you buy from Aldi. Or chocolate-coated Turkish Delight. Or tea. Or chicken chasseur. Oh damn. That's four.

  9. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?
Not personally, but through family members I have. A bit over a week ago we found out our 9 day old son had a stroke. Scared shitless, but now q little calmer about it and still hopeful of zero side affects.

2: What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school?
I missed 5 weeks of school through various sporting trips, but as they were school sporting trips they counted as attending. Ass of a geography teacher tried to stop me graduating. When I got back, got 49/50 on his test, and then argued for, and got, the other 1 point.

3: Have you ever been desperately envious of someone?
Every time I hear some lotto jackpot above $30M go off. Why can't I just get handed that kind of money? Just because I don't buy a ticket doesn't mean...

4: If you met yourself, do you think you would ?
Yeah, probably. We like the same things, I like that in people.

5: If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?
Rocky road ice cream with ice magic.

6: Have you ever stolen anything?
Nothing over a few dollars worth, when I was 13 or so. Basketball cards I remember lifting once.

7: Rate these in order from hardest to easiest to give up for a year: chocolate, sex, alcohol, mobile phone, TV, computer.
Computer, TV, phone, chocolate, sex, alcohol. I probably like alcohol more than that but rarely have a drink these days anyway.

8: If you weren't with your current partner, who would you be with? More than likely the next girl willing to sleep with me.

  10. 1. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? No. Boring I know but that's all I've got.
    2. What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? Nothing really 'weird'. Was just picked on a lot for being 'a brain'. Oh yeah, you weren't supposed to be good at school where I went.
    3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Yes. My best friend in High School. I just wanted to 'be' her!
    4. If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? Straight up I'd love myself, but after awhile I'd realize I was only telling myself what I wanted to hear and had no substance really.
    5. If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? SUSHI!! mmm mmm
    6. Have you ever stolen anything? Hmmm?? Does eating the stuff from the supermarket deli cabinet where I was working count? Or sneaking a few 'health' bars from across the aisle??? Probably!

  11. I love this stuff.

    1. Nup. The closest I've ever got to dying was when one night I drank WAY too much alcohol on an empty stomach. Hubby, thinking he was helping me, picked me up off the floor and RAN to the taxi with me in his arms (new love), prompting me to throw up again. I felt like death the next day. BOOM-tish!

    2. I heard that a boy had spread a rumour that I had slept with him (I hadn't. Not even CLOSE), so I got really angry. I hunted him down at school. I swear all of the year 9 class were following me when I confronted him, egging me on. I slapped him. It went deafly silent. Weird.

    3. Alison Wilkinson in Year 8. She had gorgeous, perfectly sized breasts. I had exactly what I have now - coasters with nipples.

    4. Yeah. I think I would. We'd have a good laff.

    5. Soft cheese. I'd break wind a lot. But I'd be happy. :)

    6. Only unintentionally. I once brought a whole bag of fruit & veg home from the local Harris Farms that wasn't mine, and didn't return it. OH - almost forgot. I also once started receiving the Sun Herald & Sunday Tele even tho I didn't order it. For, like, 3 months. I guess I could have called, but I didn't.

    7. Computer, chocolate, TV, alcohol, mobile phone, sex.

    8. Henry Cavill. He's younger. I'd be a Cougar. But Hubby is younger too (if only by 15 months). That doesn't faze me. Get 'em young, teach 'em tricks.

  12. 1. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Imminent death no. I was told I would die in a year and that was a bit of a shock but it's not happening so now I don't care!

    2. What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? I got a High Distinction in the Westpac Maths Competition 4 years running yet I was a consistent C/C- student in math! I was great at picking random boxes! Haha.

    3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Yes. I am at this moment.

    4. If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? Do you mean as a friend or as more? Probably both. Haha. I really think I'm pretty cool!

    5. If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? Apples. They're full of crunchy goodness!

    6. Have you ever stolen anything? Yes. When I was 4 I put my 50c in the donation bowl at church and took $4 change. On the way home I asked if we could buy ice-cream & when my mum found out I'd taken the money she marched me back to church to apologise to the priest. I never got my ice-cream.

    3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Yes. I was always envious of a girl at school named Kerry (no not @KerriSackville) she was gorgeous and always had the hottest boyfriend - it turns out now she's been through 3 marriages and is about to marry husband no.4 - I now feel superior as I've been married 24years today!!

  14. 1) Yes, a couple of times. Once was under anesthetic and I don't recall it, the other was an allergic reaction and all I could think was "make it stop hurting". Doctor told me later I was lucky to have survived, I thought the ambo's were lucky to have got the eyeful they did lol

    2) I'm not sure I remember school, it was a very long time ago

    3) I must have been, wonder who it was and why... Hmmm

    4) Depends - am I meeting the me who is comfortable with who I'm talking to or the me that presents when there's people I have to behave around there? The comfortable me is fun, the other me, hmm could seem boring because I behave too well.

    5) BBQ Shapes

    6) Went through a peer pressure stage at around 12 and did but nothing since then.

    7) computer, mobile phone, chocolate, sex, tv then alcohol

    8) well I'm separated from my current partner but I'm with no-one. "Might have a chance in hell" choices - probably him or the other one (long stories on both lol) "never going to happen" choice - Matthew McConaughey perhaps. Can't think of anyone else I lust after lol

  17. 1. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Never. Touch wood.
    2. What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? The 'weirdest' one I've already mention on your 'childhood scars' post. So I'll tell you this one: I got smacked on the bottom by THE PRINCIPAL because I jumped off the front of the stage - something we did ALL THE TIME as it was only about 40-50cm high. This was - of course - illegal, so she felt the wrath of my father the next day. She then had a vendetta against me for the rest of her time at my school, making me collect litter at lunch time several times for minor infringements like being the last to sit down on the mat. When she had to leave due to her health I was ecstatic, and made puking motions & noises to my friends while she had the whole school sing "When a child is born" surrounded by & clutching the new entrants (5 yr olds) at her leaving assembly.
    3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? All the time. Anyone who seems funny, pretty, popular, famous, has a great career/job or an amazing house. I might SWF you soon Kerri. Watch it.
    4. If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? No. Not because I'm not reasonably fun & nice, but because I'd see right through me.
    5. If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? It's a dead heat between Samboy's salt & vinegar chips, and Red Rock Deli's sweet chilli & sour cream chips. Crisps if you're reading this in British.
    6. Have you ever stolen anything? Giant jaffas from the pick 'n' mix in my youth. A stool from Ikea & 3 days of meals & beverages from a holiday resort in more recent years. I sound like a klepto, but both of these more serious crimes were of the 'realised when I got home that it wasn't on my receipt' variety. Before you say that I should have noticed at the time of payment: we were spending VAST amounts of money at both places, so the relatively small ($25 stool & maybe $100-$150 of food/drink) amounts weren't that obvious. Okay? OKAY? Oh god, I feel SO guilty about that food & drink now... I should have phoned them & told them. Agh.

  19. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?

I spun my car 360 degrees on a wet road with four of my best friends as passengers. All I could think of at the time was how weird everything was in slow motion, how my friends faces were so animated and how fabulous one of the girl's hair was as it spun around her head.

2: What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school?

I started a rumour in year 6 that the baby Jesus in the nativity scene up the back of the church was haunted! (It did have eyes that followed you). There was a big problem in the school with lots of the young kids refusing to go into the church.

3: Have you ever been desperately envious of someone?

My friends with the fabulous hair! She also had amazing boobs and was very artistic and articulate.

4: If you met yourself, do you think you would like You?

I hope so - but, it would depend at what stage of our menstrual cycle we met each other!

5: If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be?

No idea - but I would be excited to find out! You know how sometimes you meet a guy and feel a tingle? I love that feeling and of course, being happily married I don't go anywhere with that feeling but... hang on, what am I saying? If I wasn't with the Music Man it would be because sometime terrible had happened - we are stuck together with life glue!

  20. 1. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Yes, I once got run over outside my house by a car - fractured three vertebrae, broke most of my ribs. I don't remember what I thought about it specifically but my downstairs neighbour did run out and the first thing she said was "Poor dear, and you've just hung out the washing too"
    2. What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? When I was ten I was randomly selected (as in, side of the road "Hey you!" selected) to be the Minister for the Environment on a 1985 video explaining Parliament to fifth graders. I was so good, I've never worked in the industry again.
    3. Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Anyone who wins more than $3 million gets a few moments of my inner time.
    4. If you met yourself, do you think you would like You? No, I suspect I'd find myself extremely annoying, opinionated and dull.

    Thanks!

  22. Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? Yes. I had a bad reaction to a medication I was taking and spent 5 days on a drip till they figured out what was the problem, I was just lying there thinking I wouldn't get out of bed on the worst day, didn't really know how bad it was till afterwards when a nurse told me. The looks on my parents' and daughter's faces said a lot though.

What was the weirdest thing that ever happened to you at school? Being told I HAD to hand in an overdue assignment in 6th class (it was a storybook with illustrations), staying up half the night to do it, then he never marked it, just returned about half of it 6 months later, he'd lost the rest of it. :(

Have you ever been desperately envious of someone? Yes. The girl my first BF in school dumped me for.

If I could have 5 minutes alone with Simon Baker I would tell him I have a Bum Finger. What man can resist that opening line?

If there was no Simon Baker who would you love.........

OMG I just read your latest tweets.. you called me the exceptionally witty Girl from East St Kilda! I'm beaming with pride !!!

And in case you think being witty is all that there is to me I should tell you that I am so much more than just a witty face. To prove it I will answer the first questions on your blog.......

Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about? First of all I should apologise and say that the following has not been spell-checked. Okay so here goes......

One Friday afternoon, when my youngest child was four years old, and playing with a friend in our lounge room, I suddenly became aware that a man was standing behind me. I was in our kitchen. The man grabbed me and put a knife to my throat. He had apparently been in the house when I had arrived home with the 2 girls. I struggled and screamed out. My daughter and her friend heard me and came into the kitchen. The intruder told me that the girls would be dead if I didn't stop struggling. I stopped struggling. I told my daughter that the man was playing a silly game and she should take her friend and go to her room. I told her to close the door and take off her shoes and hop into bed and not come out of her room until I came to get her. For the next 2 hours I tried desperately to talk my way out of being raped and/or killed. I pleaded for the lives of my daughter and her friend.(I called them both my daughters.) All I could think of was that I wanted them to survive but strangely had no fear of dying myself. I felt like I was floating up above myself and watching everything from up high. I was tied up and blind-folded at the time. Well after 2 hours of talking (mostly me, he was pretty much silent) and being carried around from room to room by Mr Burglar, he finally set me down on a couch. Twice I thought he had left, only to hear him come back. Finally when I thought he was well and truly gone, I managed to untie my hands and take off my blind fold and go to the children. Later to help my daughter recover I told her many stories about the silly burglar man and what a complete idiotic dill he was. I told her how clever and brave we girls were, my daughter, her friend and me. Not that I ever underestimated the danger that the girls and I were under. I found out later when he was caught that 'our burlar' was a convicted rapist and arsonist. One of the women he had raped was a 78 years old woman and another was a young mother. It turned out I was the only woman he had not raped. He stole a number of items from the house including boxes of photos. As a result I have no baby photos of my daughter. There is a lump of pain in my heart about those photos. The Burglar went to jail. I never sought compensation. I did well emotionally and made a full recovery. I did have to go to court to testify but after that he was history. My '4 year old' is now 27 years old. She is a strong, beautiful and wonderfully, reslient young woman, who is expecting her first child.

  33. 1. Last year my car skidded on ice and it became completely uncontrollable. I knew not to touch the brakes but did try to steer but it was impossible, the wheel wrenched from my hands and I hurtled towards and then crashed through a farm fence American-movie-countryside-police-chase style...eveything went in slow motion and all I could think was thank-Buddha this is not a brick wall or a tree! I was shaken, but fine - car not so good.
    2. In primary school myself and another girl pretended we were in a trance...a girl, I did not like very much, came and spat on my face to see if I was bullshitting...I didn't react! and got to spend the afternoon on the "sick" couch which was on the landing of a beautiful old staircase. WHAT on earth was my behaviour all about???
3.Desperately envious of anyone who is not desperately envious of anyone
4.I reckon I would love me...I already love meeting like-minded people & those who share similar characteristics and life experiences 'cause it really does make me feel like I am not a complete freak!

6.I think a pot-o-gloss from the chemist at Kew junction when I was about 10? Magazines & books & smokes from my 1st real workplace & and I MAY or may not have pretended to ring up items and pocketed the cash instead a few times! PLEASE don't tell anyone OK? Oh and SORRY old boss : (

4.If you could only eat one food the rest of your life, what would it be? Bread in its various forms.

Heath Ledger :( sad loss that...

SUSHI!! mmm mmm

  38. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?

  39. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?

6: Have you ever stolen anything? Do funny one-liners count?

7: Rate these in order from hardest to easiest to give up for a year: chocolate, sex, alcohol, mobile phone, TV, computer. chocolate, computer, sex, chocolate, computer, alcohol, sex, mobile phone, TV.

8: If you weren't with your current partner, who would you be with? He's one in a million. Which means there's 22 more that I don't even need a passport to find! Wheee!

  40. ok:

  41. 1: Have you ever faced death, and if so, what did you think about?
